Loaded the reel with 20lb line matched with Majorcraft Beneyro.
With many of the other baitcasters, not many people like to flip soft plastics on them as they are quite light. So decided to test it on Tatula. First 30mins, tested it with 1/6oz Jighead with Zman Pearl White Minnow. Flipping, overhead cast pose no obstacle for this amazing new reel from Daiwa. With the Type R that comes with CRBB, keeps you at ease even if you are fishing SW.
Getting bored so i decided to use liver on a big gamakatsu 4/0 circle hook. Cast out and watch the stars go by. Even before my bum could get warm, i saw my line peeling and quickly "jumped" up to "set hook". Damn! i forgot i am using circle hooks.. set hook and gone... crap!!!
reel back with only the chicken heart in place. ANGRY! cast out again with only the heart. with the smoothness of the reel, i could cast out and drop it right at the corner of the centre blue pump.
5mins had not even past when my line starts to go against the current. i slowly picked up my rod and tightened the drag. click click click... the fish felt the hook and took off like a rocket....
a tough man vs beast battle took place for the next 15mins. As i slowly thumb my reel and controlling the movement of the fishes head, i could feel it loosening its hold. It was less than 2m from the side when suddenly the fish shook his head in denial and broke the rod into 2. earth shattering sound followed by a "rod break liao" shout from an unknown neighbouring shelter.
cannot lose face... must bring back.
finally i got it to the fish handler who lifted it up for my photo opportunity.
It was so unexpected... its demise was so sudden...
Good bye my Beneyro...
but I'm not sad, I'm happy... happy that i got reasons to buy another rod
